Danish Duo Dominate Sway 5

The 2010 Runningtree Series sponsored by Royal Canin got under way with the Sway Carnival 5 at Wilverley.

Casper Jakobsen from the Sparta Copenhagen Club won the race in a time of 28.48 whilst his father, John Jakobsen was fourth in a time of 29.41. Casper held off the challenge of Poole runner Mike Grist and New Forest Runners' Steve Wright who finished 2nd (29.00) and 3rd (29.21) respectively.

New Forest Runner Valeria Sesto continued the internationl theme by winning the ladies race in a time of (31.48). Second lady was Anna Bentley of Hardley Runners (35.40) with Victoria Buck third (35.48).
The race saw Angela Coubrough's New Forest Runners' novice group make their racing debut. There were a number of impressive performances from the group. Well done to Angela and her helpers. They were well supported by their club mates who set a high standard for them to aspire to – there were 10 New Forest Runners in the first 20 finishers, which included Valeria Sesto.
Veteran New Forest Runner, Bruce Davidson brought up the rear with a time of 1.09.17.

The heat wave leading up to the race did not deter the participants this year – entries nearly topped 250!

Winner overall was Robin Ward of Portsmouth Joggers with a time of 29.48. His nearest rival was Ian Berry (30.02). New Forest Runners' Frank Handy (30.54) and Henry Szwinto (31.09) were 3rd and 4th.
Last year's winner of the Runningtree Series, Andrew Jennings of Bournemouth A.C. was 7th (31.41).

Erica Fogg was the first lady home with a time of 32.23 – beating fellow New Forest Runner Valeria Sesto by 10 seconds! Jane Morgan was 3rd (36.25) and another New Forest Runner, Becky Hollowbread was 4th (37.02).

A bruised and battered super veteran, Bruce Davidson completed the race despite suffering a fall on the course, in a time of 1.07.20. Rebecca Smith completed her first ever race along with several New Forest Runners novices who were also making their race debuts.
There was also the sight of several Cannie X runners with their dogs on harnesses who ran the race for the first time.

The next race in the Runningtree Series of 5 races sponsored by Royal Canin is the Everton 10k on August 23rd. Each runner is given a point per placing in a race and the runner that accumulates the least number of points over the 5 qualifying races is the overall winner. Trophies and prizes are awarded to the first male and first lady.

This race is part of a series which includes Everton 10K, Hoburne 5, Milford 5 and the Christmas 10K. A trophy will be awarded to the best male and female performers over the series. One point will be awarded per placing (1 point for first place, 2 for second etc.) The winners will be the ones with the least number of points accumilated. We will publish a league table regularly so that runners can see where they stand.

Sway Carnival 5 - Results 2008

The 159 runners found perfect running weather for this year run. The first male runner home was Bournemouth AC Runner Ian White in a time of 28mins 37secs, which equals the Course Record, Second home was a New Forest Runner - Oli Dodd in second (29.18) and another Bournemouth AC runner, Andrew Jennings was third (29:54).

The first lady home was Valeria Sesto of New Forest Runners in a time of 33.33, a New Course Record, second home was New Forest Runner Gail Walters (36.44) and third was Reading Road Runners Jacqueline Smith (36.59). For a full list of this years results, please click on the link:
