The Runningtree Series Sponsored by Hoburne Parks

Hoburne sets the pace with sponsorship of The Running Tree Series

Hoburne Holiday Parks is warming up as the sponsor of The Running Tree Series, which attracts around 2,000 runners across the south every year.

The five-race series, which raises thousands of pounds for local charities, gets underway later this month on Sunday June 29 with The Sway 5, an off-road five-mile race, and culminates with the extremely popular Burton Christmas Pudding 10k, a road race, on Sunday December 7.

Hoburne already sponsors The Hoburne 5, the middle race of the series in aid of the Bournemouth Heart Club, but wanted to extend its involvement this year.

Managing Director of Hoburne Holiday Parks, James Lapage, explained: “The healthy lifestyle message is very important to us. All seven of the Hoburne Holiday Parks from the Cotswolds to Cornwall are in fantastic locations either close to award-winning beaches or on the doorstep of some of the most stunning stretches of countryside in England. Holidays at Hoburne Parks provide people with great opportunities to explore the great outdoors and the various activities on offer. The Running Tree Series compliments our message well and we are delighted to be sponsoring the whole series this year. The races also raise money for very worthy causes, including Bournemouth Heart Club, Oakhaven Hospice and community projects, and we are pleased to be backing events that do so much good for local charities.”

The five races in The Running Tree Series sponsored by Hoburne are:

The Sway 5, Sunday June 29th, 10.30am
The Everton 10k, Sunday August 17th, 10.30am
The Hoburne 5, Sunday October 5th, 11am
The Milford 5, Sunday October 19th, 10.30am
The Burton Christmas Pudding 10k, Sunday December 7th, 11am
Trophies and holiday prizes will be awarded to the series' winners at a special presentation at Hoburne Park in Christchurch in January 2009.

Series Table

Each competitor is awarded a point in accordance with their finishing position in each race. For example, the race winner will receive one point and the runner who finishes 100th will get 100 points. The runner with the least points accumilated over the whole series will be the overall winner. To qualify, runners must complete all 5 races. In the event of a tie, the committee will decide a winner, based on finishing times and if necessary, age related performance. The ladies prize will be awarded using the same criteria.

The Milford race saw the contenders reduced again. Ian Whites' absence saw Andrew Jennings take over top spot after his 7th place finish. He is now favorite going into the last race with 29 points. Micheal McCabe finished in 21st place and lept up to second spot after the non appearance of fellow New Forest Runners Henry Szwinto, Andy Phimister and Howard Doe.Michael is now on 84 points.

Christine Hart-Burke now leads the ladies on 503 points following her 127th place finish. Her main rivals, Lynda Wheeler and Linda Phimister did not enter the Milford Race.
My appologies to Katherine Lamkin who is now in 2nd place with 572 points and Geoff Bettle who is 5th on 379 points after I left them off the previous table in error.
